'Dancing With the Stars': It's losing to the Miss Perfects, the old dog, and the underdog

It's the charmers versus the swans as we get down to the final four couples twirling on "Dancing With the Stars."

Not that Donny Osmond and Kelly Osbourne are slouches in the dancing section, or that Mya and Joanna Krupa are all fancy footwork and no charisma. But while the latter two are clearly the stronger dancers, with longer, more elegant lines, Donny and Kelly - the biggest underdog of the bunch - are clearly crowd pleasers.

Carrie Ann Inaba may have said it most excellent, responding to a rhumba from Kelly and partner Louis Van Amstel: "You have this supernatural quality . . . you reach right into my heart and make me love you."

Now the question is, did she do the equal for the audience?
On the first ever demonstrate in which celebs had to perform three routines in one night, Mya once again was the standout, earning a wonderful score of 30 for a samba that was one of the most sparkling routines of the entire season.

She and partner Dmitry Chaplin finished the night with a terrifyingly near flawless score of 87 out of 90 for their three routines combined. Joanna and partner Derek Hough were in second overall with 81 out of 90. Kelly Osbourne edged out Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson for third, with full scores of 78 and 74 respectively.

Dancing With the Stars outcome: Joanna Krupa Playboy 2009 eliminated

Model Joanna Krupa and her expert partner Derek Hough became the thirteenth couple eliminated from Dancing with the Stars season during previous night's live results demonstrate broadcast on ABC.

Krupa and Hough were eliminated from the contest based on a combination of the judges' scores they had received for the three dances they had performed on Dancing with the Stars' Monday night performance show and the home viewer votes that were cast instantly following the broadcast.

"It's been such an wonderful experience, thank you to the judges," Krupa said following her elimination. "I've grown as a person and thank you for giving me the chance. I had a great partner."

Krupa and Hough had placed second on Monday night's jury leaderboard with 81 out of 90 probable points. They had received 27 out of 30 points for their Viennese waltz, 27 out of 30 points for their cha-cha, and 27 out of 30 points for their salsa.

previous The Osbournes star Kelly Osbourne and her partner Louis van Amstel had finished in third place on the judges' leaderboard and were the other pair still in danger of removal when Krupa and Hough's elimination was revealed, however Dancing with the Stars co-host Samantha Harris had been cautious to note they were not essentially the week's second-lowest ranked couple.

'So You Think You Can Dance' Top 14 dancers performance

Cat Deeley wore a baked potato-worthy sheath of thwart to see what the top 14 had to give. It was distracting only because it made me starving for some starch. Previously the So You Think You Can Dance judges have been getting exacting about presentation and sharp routines. Sloppiness had cropped up a lot and they lastly broke. They took no prisoners last week with their critiquing. It was a step in the right direction as season 6 actually hasn't been that extraordinary since the elimination rounds began. The fear of being eliminated may hold some performers back, but that cannot continue if they hope to actually shine and survive.

Ashleigh and Jakob: Hip-hop performance

The stories in Ashleigh and Jakob's routines are forever good, but this time Ashleigh contributed similarly. They noted that the "evolution" of their company has gone from seduction, through marriage and now into infidelity. It's attractive that their performances mature as their partnership goes on. They did a kickass hip-hop number that I would've loved to have learned…and been able to execute properly. But I digress - they weren't jointly at all times but the camera angles could've been the culprit. I also am dying to really cheer for Ashleigh for some reason, but this time it's easy to find some strengths (special note, she performed much better). Jakob is just Jakob, always spot on and showing that spark you cannot teach. It didn't hurt that they tore it up to "Whatcha Say" by Jason Derulo (sampled from "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap - yeah the song from "The OC" episode where Marissa shot Trey). She really was the one that maintained my concentration for once - it had to be the fact that she's not an "ugly cryer" and her whole routine focused on her strong emotions of anger and being scorned. Score one for Ashleigh.

Q&A: Amanda Miller, Miro Dance Theatre Choreographer

In this week’s City Paper, I interviewed Miro Dance Theatre choreographer Amanda Miller about her future work-in-progress, How Am I Not Myself? The piece, which she performed last night with standard Indian dancer Viji Rao, is a indication on the two dancers’ realization that, despite their differences, they’re actually quite alike:

When Miller met Rao, she most likely felt like she was stuck in a modern-dance Parent Trap: Despite their differences in race, gender and hemisphere, the two had led eerily equal lives — same birth week, same dance background, same shift from traditional to contemporary.

Even if you missed last night’s Open Studio sequence at Girard College, you can still follow Miller and Rao on their travels to India — they’ll be video-blogging, and we’ll be pestering them and reporting back occasionally on their experiences. Till then, verify out my Q&A with Miller, and appointment mirodancetheatre.org if you want to help them in their fundraising efforts. (Donate $250 or more and Miro will take a adapted photo for you each day they’re in India; donate $1,000 or more and you’ll get your own dance video. beautiful cool.)

Dancing With The Stars: Susan Boyle Very miserable That Two Dancers Danced As She Sang

Susan Boyle sang her heart out on Dancing With The Stars and the audience satisfied her by giving her a repute ovation. She later confided to British judge Len Goodman that she did not be glad about the couple dancing while she was singing up on stage. She said that they upstaged her and she stressed in no unsure terms that it was friggin rude as 'ell (hell). She told the crotchety 93-year-old English codger that she would not at all think of singing while the dance partners were dancing their spirited dance number. Bruno Tonioli, the Italian moderator, added that he did not responsibility her one Londonderry bit and he then pointed out that it had all been Bergeron's idea.

Ballroom dancing contest draws throng to College Park

Beyond the multitude of sequin-covered dancers sashaying to the floor, Allison Dennis stood apprehensively in her modest-by-comparison flouncy polka dot miniskirt, eager for her group to be called.

It was, after all, only her second dance rivalry. But like so many relative newcomers to ballroom dancing, what she lacked in knowledge she made up in attitude.

"It's exciting, it's exciting, it's exhausting," said Dennis, breathless, as she strutted off the dance floor with her partner, Robert Granville; equally are sophomores at the University of Maryland, College Park.

They were among the almost 1,000 competitors in this year's DC Dancesport Inferno ballroom dancing competition at the university. What started as a small collegiate tournament 14 years ago has grown into one of the biggest competitions in the mid-Atlantic, with college students and nonstudent amateur competitors alike taking part in a two-day competition.

Participation in the competition has soared in new years. With the popularity of such TV shows as "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Dancing with the Stars," ballroom is very hot.

So You Think You Can Dance Backstage Scoop: Why the "Stunned" jury Sent Bianca Home

It was a hard night for the tappers on So You Think You Can Dance. Both Bianca Revels and Phillip Attmore were sent home, but we caught up with the jury backstage and learned it didn't have to be that way.

In fact, Bianca's fate wasn't sealed until the last minutes of tonight's episode, when two judges outvoted the third and sent home Bianca, saving Noelle Marsh to dance a different day.

What made the dissimilarity? Here's what we learned...

what made the dissimilarity for fellow judges Adam Shankman and Mary Murphy? Adam told us, "I think Noelle's solo changed it, I think in our heads she was sort of on her way out and the alone changed it. I turned to them and said 'How could we possibly send her home after what we just saw?' I don't think it's inequitable to say that we were stunned."

Mary tells us, "Judge Nigel Lythgoe wanted to save Bianca, but it didn't go his way: "I didn't desire to lose two tappers tonight, but we decided it was Phillip [going home for the guys] near the beginning on. I think we were unanimous on that tonight, and then we had to decide on the girl. Neither one of [the bottom two girls] impressed us tonight in their duets. For me, Noelle was always a truly good dancer, but Bianca has grown, so my money goes on the one that's grown and that isn't just another contemporary dancer...but I was outvoted."

AndGoing in, with Noelle, I was thinking of taking her off the show, but after her solo I just thought to myself, There's no way, there's no way. She went up and down on both knees [even though she was lately injured], and I was like, Holy smokes. I think that was a real message to us: 'Don't even distantly think of taking me out. If you think I'm not gonna be able to handle it, I can handle it.' It was very imposing to me."

Mark Morris Dance set – Programme 2

Mark Morris's second programme opens with a different UK premiere: Visitation, a spare, strange setting of Beethoven's Sonata No 4 for cello and piano. The music is filled with disconcerting echoes and moments of hiatus, and in Morris's step arrangement, these translate into equally unsettling manoeuvres. Dancers insert themselves, ghost-like, between two partners in a duet; they are cut off mid-phrase, or simply left bowing to blank space. In one section, three of them are carried parallel on to the stage, and as the music skips a sudden set of heartbeats, are tilted on to their feet, like lost souls jerked into life.

Visitation has moments of plangent loveliness, but it waits for you to discover them. And even in his more extrovert works, Morris often delivers his effects by stealth. Going Away Party (1990) is a homage to American western swing, set to 11 songs by the ebullient Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. primarily, it looks no more ambitious than a regular cowboy romp, cast with strutting guys and flirtatious gals, and it is only in the second song that you start to get the measure of how funny and clever it's going to be. Formation-wise, there are moments of intellect, such as the asymmetrical square dance that requires wicked trickeries of positioning from its seven dancers. As for the humour, rarely does Morris's gift for referencing his lyrics get so droll, rising to the smutty delight of Wills's serenade to his girlfriend's lips, which prompts all the lady to leap on to the shoulders of the men, crotches pressed in opposition to their partners' mouths.

Jackson collaborators search for debt payments

LOS ANGELES -- Michael Jackson's collaborators on "Thriller" say they are due more than $2.3 million from the singer's domain.

George Folsey Jr., the maker of the iconic 14-minute "Thriller" video, filed a claim Thursday for more than $1 million he says he's allocated.

An legal representative for the video's director, John Landis, filed creditors claims against the singer's estate - also on Thursday - saying they are likely due more than $1.3 million. Landis and his company sued Jackson before his death, claiming the singer hadn't paid Landis his distribute of profits in recent years.

Landis also sued to discontinue Jackson from exploiting new "Thriller" projects, such as a Broadway demonstrate. Those cases are still pending.

Jackson's past manager, Leonard Rowe, also claimed Thursday the singer allocated him more than $300,000.

20,000 people try for Thriller dance record

Dancers from Vancouver to Beijing to Buenos Aires attempted to make their mark in the Guinness Book of globe Records for the largest number of people dancing concurrently to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

It's estimated about 20,000 people in more than 200 locations in 37 countries around the globe participate in the dance which occurred Saturday night or Sunday morning depending on where you were.

I adore dancing, I love Michael Jackson and it was a perfect chance to do both and get into the Guinness Book of World Records, said elementary school teacher Heather Shantz, 26, who had travelled several hours from her area to join about 230 people in downtown Vancouver on Saturday night.

Dance co-ordinator Graeme Lea led the crowd — all of whom had brought food and cash donations for the city's food bank in order to contribute in the event.
When we take our first step, people in China will take their first step, said Lea. The dance around the globe was co-ordinated by cellphone so all the dancers could begin at the similar time.

In Los Angeles, a enormous crowd of more than 4,000 made-up dancers gathered at the Nokia hub to do their bit.

'So You Think You Can Dance' get together The Top 20

The new set on 'So You Think You Can Dance' looks wider, flashier, but a bit distract at first. Cat, Mary, Nigel, and Adam are all back, but new are the new crop of dancers. In a new move the first show isn't an elimination episode but a pre-season showcase to introduce the top 20 to the audience. This is a good idea: the die-hard audience will be able to have a look at each dancer in their element before the elimination episodes begin. Each dancer performs in their favorite style of dance just this once, and next time the pairs will be made and the random styles of dance will be assigned.

The show is opened by a Wade Robson collection number. With most Wade numbers, an exciting, interesting idea results in a badass and unforgettable routine for the show. The group number has a chic 1930s theme, reminiscent of the gang wars from West Side Story. The 20 are split into four groups that are showcased in segments. A few parts were less than coordinated, but being the first number with ALL the dancers, I'll let it slide. Some eight counts used big groups motions that looked like the wretched dance scene from She's All That done in the correct context - an actual dance showcase. There were no factual sore thumbs sticking out in the premier group number.

Dancing through time in West Milford, a last celebration-off

West Milford — As West Milford’s 175th anniversary year winds down there is yet one more happening slated to get residents out of the home and up on their feet.

On Nov. 7, the West Milford Heritage Committee will be hosting a 175 Anniversary Gala at the West Milford Elks Club and all are invited to feast, dance and drink a toast to their hometown.
Looking back in time, town residents have been known to get out and boogie. Well, maybe not so much boogie — more like swing their partners. According to some folks around town, square dances were West Milford’s biggest common events in days gone by.

The square dance is considered a folk dance, with its steps and movements coming to the United States from diagonally the sea. First described in the 17th century, it was popular in England and France and is akin to Scottish country dancing. Americans made it their own and different provincial styles arose.

In two Olympics and four world championships, Natalie Coughlin has tasted the thrill of success eight times. For now, that'll have to be sufficient. The three-time Olympic gold medalist and her professional dance partner, Alec Mazo, were eliminated Tuesday nighttime from "Dancing With the Stars," the sixth couple sent packing from ABC's hit dancing contest. Dancing the paso doble, Coughlin and Mazo earned 22 of a possible 30 points from the show's judges, their second-worst score in the contest. However, when Coughlin and Mazo wound up in the bottom two with singer Aaron Carter and partner Karina Smirnoff - who scored 24 points with their Argentine tango - the jury were surprised and dismayed.

Bebo causes nearly a stampede

The magnum opus telly show Dance Premier League on Sony Entertainment Television this week saw the Western Yoghs and their group selections. As they waited eagerly to collect their supporter, Kareena Kapoor, the arena saw a near stampede! While people were cheering and blaring out her name, Kareena said, “I’m happy to be at the DPL selections and I’ll surely cheer for the team.”

What’s adding glam to this show, which has a distinctive format, is the attendance of stars like Salman Khan, Bipasha Basu, Himmesh Reshammiya, Sohail Khan, Prabhu Deva, Arshad Warsi and Shiamak Davar. The stars came, danced and had participants fainting too! Yes, a participant did faint when she realised that Salman was watching her dance! The selections saw dancers from the west zone with one special dancer who proved that zilch can keep him away from rival for his regional pride. Vishal, a 20-year-old from Mumbai danced like a dream.
